First True Double WOD Day Since Spring
It’s been no secret that my lifting has been down this summer, and so have my WODs. I didn’t have the focus early on, and I even went about a month without even touching the barbell. During that time, I did mostly lower intensity body weight workouts. It was more about just getting some movement in. Even though it’s been at least a little inconsistent.
That’s okay, though. I had more important things for my mind to work on and process. I did miss the good feeling of the HIIT stuff, though. That always calms my brain. Over the past month or so, I have been slowly ramping up the weights in my WODs and also the intensity. Not every day but it’s been becoming a more common part of the workouts.
Today I did a workout with hang snatches in it. I decided that I wanted to go with the heavier 35 pound dumbbells for the workout. I’ve been sticking with the lighter ones for the most part. The snatches really did feel good. I maintained a super high heart rate through the workout and felt good. Breathing was good too! I actually beat my score from the last time I did this particular workout with the same weight!
Of course, I felt completely dead right after the WOD was completed, but that’s how I know I got good intensity. My recovery was pretty quick, and I decided I would be able to do a workout with Molly.
When she was ready, I got changed again, and we got the WOD in. That was unweighted lunges and hang cleans. I used the 25 pound dumbbells for this one, as my forearm was still angry. I expected that I’d keep the intensity pretty low on it, but I didn’t. Surprisingly, I felt like I pushed it with speed this time. I ended up finishing before my girlfriend and did another round with her to push her.
The workouts left me in a really great mental state. I miss that. These days always calm my ever-busy mind. Today’s workouts leave me feeling hopeful that I can get back to this on a more consistent basis.
Street Parking also hasn’t made it easy though. They’ve lost their way with the gimmicks each month. Like this month’s ruck crap. Before that it was the syphalis ones then the partner crap. It’s had me doing mostly SHIFTs because they are overcomplicating the daily WODs to fit into the monthly gimmick.

It’s had me doing mostly SHIFTs because they are overcomplicating the daily WODs to fit into the monthly gimmick. I’m likely in the minority, but I don’t want games, gimmicks, or challenges. I just want a workout that is nothing more than HIIT, so I don’t have to think about what to do.
Next week I have a heavy week of 1+ reps for my weights for my 5/3/1. This is the first fairly heavy cycle since discovery day, and I am excited to see how that goes. I think my squats will be at 290 pounds. Heavy weeks are my favorite and I can’t wait!
The Music for the WODs was Die Apokalyptischen Reiter.
