Yesterday We Had Our First Thunderstorm Of 2023 And They Didn't Disappoint

Yesterday morning began fairly mild, and we had showers and thunderstorms moving through just before dawn. We had a burst of heavy rain and one rumble of thunder. Nothing special, but it was nice to have our first thunder of the year. Last summer was just so lackluster in the storm department.

For the most part, the morning was cloudy, but shortly after noon the skies began to brighten. Soon after that, we had some good sunshine. That helped the temperature rise well into the sixties. The high fell short of the forecast of 70 ℉ by several degrees, but it was fairly humid. Still, I had little hope for good Thunderstorms with the high being lower.

We walked to Joy’s for supper and drinks like we always do, and it was a nice walk. Drizzly and warm, but not bad at all. I figured that sloppy, light precipitation was the final nail in the coffin for any chance of good thunderstorms yesterday. We enjoyed ourselves and were there later than normal since a friend showed up.

We left there about 8:00 or so. I didn’t look at the time. We went outside just in time to get caught in a downpour. It was still very mild at least and the rain felt pretty warm and tropical like. We walked home and as we were walking, that was when the lightning flashes started and thunder was getting closer. By the time we got home, there was frequent lightning and thunder. We didn’t have any wind, but we did have very heavy rain. The lightning was better than most of the sad storms we had last summer. Really impressive stuff for March.
