Samsung Can Force Apps To Change Screen Orientation

I am testing out an app for Android. I make it no secret that apps are a steaming pile of shit. They’re mostly a regression in usability.

At least, you can force the app to show up in your chosen screen orientation on Samsung devices. I only discovered this today after being frustrated by designers yet again, thinking they know how I should use my device better than I do. It is buried in the settings.

  1. Open settings.
  2. Click on advanced features.
  3. Click on labs.
  4. Click on auto rotate apps.
  5. Find the app on the list, then click on that and select the option you want.

This works on my tablet, but not on my phone with the more recent version of Android and Samsung’s UI. Go figure.

It’s such a convoluted set of steps that I must go through to use an app on my device the way that I see fit for my use. All this is because the developers are too lazy or cheap to do things in a more accessible way. It’s funny to me that the smaller independent apps are usually the more flexible ones. The bigger ones are the ones that decided to save a few bucks even though the company has the means to pay more to do things more properly.

Don’t even get me started on the color schemes ad sparse, low contrast microscopic text.

Technology should make things more accessible but that’s unfortunately not the case.
