Squat Double At Three Hundred Pounds

Last night, I slept very poorly. We had gone to Joy’s and the booze kept me from getting a good night’s sleep. Not only that, but in the middle of the night, I woke up thirsty. I drank my entire bottle of water. I laid back down but was still thirsty, so I got up and had to go downstairs to refill my bottle.

That’s when I had the stair incident. I missed a step, thankfully near the bottom, like I do every so often. Our steps are a little narrower than the normal steps are, I think, and they just seem off. They are also in the dark hallway. Every once in a while, I miss one. Normally, it’s coming up the stairs, where my tow just catches it. Last night, it was my heel that caught the edge of one. I landed right on my ass on the steps, thinking I had broken it. At first, it hurt, but that went away while I sat up for a bit here on the computer being pissy. It went away pretty quickly, and I went back to bed.

I did sleep better then, but it wasn’t enough. I woke up and drank my coffee. At that time, I told Molly then that I was going to hold off on my squats to be certain that I was fine. A few hours later, I decided I would see how they felt.

The light weights, with just the bar and even some weight, felt great. Very fast and explosive squats. I said I was going to work my way up more slowly, but I didn’t. I worked quickly up to the working sets, and they felt surprisingly great today. The final AMRAP was for more than one rep at a nice heavy weight of even three hundred pounds. I swore that no matter how good it felt, I was only going to do one. The first one was super easy and explosive. I did a second one. While it looked pretty great on video and was easy, it was one of those times when the focus is so deep that time slows down and the music fades.

Molly said she thought I was going to go for a third one; it looked so easy, and I agree with her that I should have after seeing the video. It looked like I was good for at least one and probably two more.

I think what helped me most today was that I was just so hyper-focused. Maybe I should fall down the stairs more often!

This evening, we walked over to Harvey’s again for supper. We both got the special, which was something I never imagined. Pork Belly Tacos with a pineapple-sweet chili glaze. They were wonderful, and I was thankful I went out on a limb and tried something I didn’t even know if I’d like. It was topped with pickled slaw. I had a beer with it, which goes so well with their food.
