This Phillies Team Gives me 1993 Vibes

This year’s Phillies team is really giving me 1993 Phils vibes. That team back then was a special one that did what no one could have expected. I still hate Joe Carter for the world series-winning walk-off home run against Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams. Besides that loss, they were a fun team to watch or, in that case, listen to on the radio since I was up the mountains.

The key difference is that this current team is more talented. They’re paid a lot more money. The current Phillies ownership is willing to pay for the pieces they need. They have homegrown talent like Nola and Stott who will get paid, and Bohm who is pretty good too. Middleton seems willing to put in the work. Stott is a finalist for the gold glove.

They know how to party and have fun. That’s for sure. It shows every time they win, and those parties after they advance in the playoffs look like a blast. They’re also serious when they need to be. To me, they appear to be hungrier to win it all than even the Eagles were in 2017. Last year’s unexpected World Series run gave them a taste. Sure, the Phillies were expected to make the playoffs, but I don’t believe that anyone realistically expected them to make it to the World Series, let alone be competitive in it.

Look what they’ve done so far. The Braves were hyped so much and set all sorts of records on offense during the regular season. Look how the Phillies pitching held them down at the same time the Phillies batters were setting playoff records of their own when it really counts. The Phillies just rolled over the Braves. Atlanta’s only win in that series was one that could have gone either way. The same thing has happened so far in the series against the Diamondbacks. They hadn’t lost in the postseason until they got to Philadelphia. The first game was a close one at the bank. In the second game, the Phillies dominated the Diamondbacks in every way possible, from hitting to pitching to defense.
