We’re not really in a good place to get many opportunities to see the aurora borealis here in south central Pennsylvania, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to witness them.

When I was a fairly young child, I remember reading about them and telling Pop about them. Yes, even back then I loved all things space, nature, and science. The idea of the northern lights always fascinated me, though.

Pop told me that the first time they were visible when he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during World War II that they were all so excited to see them that they didn’t even get dressed. They went outside to see them.
