Weightlifting Competition

Ever since I first remember seeing brief bits of it on TV when I was a kid I’ve wanted to do weightlifting. Back when I was a kid in the 80s anyone I told that to thought I meant be big or a body builder but that wasn’t the case at all. I wanted to be a weightlifter.

Not so much anymore after being fat and lazy for a good chunk of my adult life but as a kid I was naturally strong. Oddly enough I am still flexible. There just wasn’t the means to learn it back then like their is now. Crossfit has really helped with that not to mention the internet with videos and easily being able to video yourself and see what you’re doing right or wrong.

Someday I want to and will do a weightlifting competition for sure. I know I won’t win. Hell I’ll probably be in last place, I still want to do it to see what the best version of me is. Pressure helps me not overthink lifts sometimes. I want it to push me out of my comfort zone.

At this point I don’t want to do weightlifting to the point of getting injured. I want to keep those risks to the minimum. Of course when I was younger I wanted to win everything but those days are long gone. I want to do it for fun now. More less I want to challenge myself.

I need to fix the soft lockout on my one elbow before I do that when doing snatches. It seems to have greatly improved but it still shows up under heavy weight. I think I’m just a little afraid to fully commit to the lift. Before I consider competing I need to be able to meet that standard if for any reason its for safety reasons. It needs to be muscle memory. I don’t have a problem with it in overhead squats anymore unless it’s a sloppy rep.
