It has been a while since we’ve had nighttime thunderstorms here. They’ve been in the area frequently, but too far away to really get anything from them. It was about 3:30 this morning when I got woken up out of a sound sleep by loud thunder. It must have been a close strike.
Of course, I jumped out of bed as I always do to get dressed and go watch it. The rain was just beginning when I got up, but it and it was pretty windy. I had to shut the bathroom window since the rain was blowing in. The porch was too wet from the wind to sit on the chairs, but it turned out okay because the storm was a quick hitter and not much lightning with it at all. We got some much-needed rain. All the recent storms have been around us, but here in Mount Joy it’s been relatively dry.
I don’t know how people can’t enjoy a good storm. Every single time we get one, I am awed by the power of nature. It’s one hundred percent free, too!
Although it was still in the seventies and very humid when the storm came through, the temperature and dew point have been dropping since then. Here at about 7:00 AM it is down into the middle 60s for both. Every once in a while, there’s a refreshing breeze coming in the windows. That should increase later today as the cold front moves through and the sun helps to mix the air more.
