Stuffy Head Turned Deadlifts And WOD Into An Adventure

Last night, I had a good night of sleep. Somehow, I still felt tired when I woke up, but I was awake. I also had some sort of stuffy head. It stuck around and made me feel a little off. Often times, drinking my hot coffee helps, but today it didn’t really help. It did taste good, though!

It was pretty early this morning when I decided I wanted to get my deadlifts in. I was still drinking my coffee, and as much as I would have loved to head out into the garage, I waited until it was a more reasonable hour.

About nine o’clock, I got changed and went to work my way through the deadlifts. The super light sets felt good as far as movement was concerned, but the stuffy head was going to be a bit of an issue for me today. I could tell that right away. I thought I would take my time working up in weight, and that is just what I did. It felt like I was moving well.

For my final set today, it was the AMRAP for three plus at two hundred and eighty pounds. While they felt great, I really felt off after that last set. I just felt almost slightly dizzy, but that’s how I can deal with the pressure in my head. I did feel slightly better after I settled down.

Once I was done with the deadlifts, I put the weights away when I was done. That’s the least fun part of the day! I drank some protein, relaxed for a little while, and hunted down a WOD to do. I wanted one that was not going to be easy, but something that I didn’t have to care too much about feeling off. Today’s WOD which had over a hundred box jumps, did not fit my requirements.

I found one and settled on that one. It was two rounds of fairly big sets of hang power cleans and dumbbell squats. It’s one that I have done before and know is worth doing again. I went with heavier dumbbells than I have been using but lighter than last time, and I used the thirty five pound dumbbells. It was more about testing the waters with my shoulder than trying to go heavier. The head of the dumbbell can hit my shoulder when I turn over the clean and can anger it.

To my surprise, the workout felt great on my shoulder and didn’t anger it at all. It felt better afterward than it had for a week. I even shaved off some time from my last score. My head really felt off the first half of the WOD, but then I felt the crackling in my ear of it opening up. All was well after that, and my head has remained open since then.

It was a good workout, which is why I chose to do this one to begin with. I was pretty aggressive today, and I showed. It really got my heart rate up. It was in the hundred and seventies that second time through the squats.

All in all, it was a pretty productive day for me in the home gym. This was on a day when I really didn’t feel like doing anything. I was really tempted to say screw it and not do either this morning, but common sense prevailed. fs My music choice was Gorod
