WOD And Deadlifts Felt Okay

I slept great last night. I woke up feeling good and refreshed. My shoulder felt much better than it had been, and my wrist is fine. The cyst is completely flat!

I drank my coffee while reading hacker news. Man, I do enjoy reading through that, especially the comments that usually put new tangents on my mind. It reminds me of what Slashdot was like back in the late 1990s.

This morning, I did things a bit out of my usual order again. I wanted to get a WOD in and was debating what I was going to do for my lifting, so I did today’s workout. It was a SHIFT version because I wanted to keep the rep scheme lower. I was thinking more about doing a workout to get my heart rate up, but I also saw how my shoulder felt since it was released. It felt slightly weaker this morning, but not angry anymore.

If I were to guess why my shoulder had been bothering me, it would be due to the cyst on my opposite wrist making me favor my normally weaker side. That cyst was really inflamed last week before it popped, and we did the team workouts, which were stupidly overusing upper body stuff to make it “hard” or at least feel so. Molly wanted the icon, so she got it.

For today’s WOD I stuck with the twenty-pound dumbbells. I also kept those hang power cleans and presses at a slightly slower pace than I normally would. They felt good and didn’t anger my shoulder before or after, so that’s a good result.

I relaxed a while and played some XBOX after the WOD. I also got to get some fresh air on the front porch while our first thunderstorm of the year moved through. We were on the edge, so it wasn’t much, but it is also only February. Radar shouldn’t look like it did this morning during this time of the year. There were a couple of fairly bright flashes of lightning and louder cracks of thunder. The thunder was also the type that featured deep booms that you could almost feel. That always seems louder when it’s cooler. Maybe the sound travels better in the denser, cooler air.

It was late morning, getting closer to lunchtime, when I decided that I wanted to do some more out in the home gym. I wanted to lift! I didn’t think bench pressing or strict pressing would be a good idea, so I skipped ahead to do my deadlifts. Or at least I figured I’d see how they would feel.

The lighter sets while warming up felt fantastic for me. Nothing in my shoulder, and with my cyst gone again, gripping felt like a world of difference than it did last week. I worked up through the warm-up sets pretty quickly. When I got to the working sets, I purposely slowed things down a bit, or at least attempted to. The first set of five and two hundred pounds felt pretty good and light. The next set, at two hundred and thirty-five pounds, also felt great. There were no inklings of any anger in my shoulder at all.

The final set at two hundred and seventy pounds also felt great. I did cut that five plus AMRAP short to three reps, though, when I felt my left shoulder working a little more for stability. Yes, I am sure I could have completed the set, but how good of an idea would that really have been? I can sacrifice a little now and be cautious, or I can sacrifice who knows how long later and be injured. I fully anticipated cutting something short with my deadlifts today, but I made it further along than I expected. All in all, it was a big positive for me.

When I was done with my deadlifts, I had less than an hour to wait to watch the Phillies spring training game. Bohm and JT both got home runs! It was interesting to see some regulars and some prospects. The Phillies seem to have a pretty good farm system now, after years of crap when Amaro sold it out in trades. It’s nice to have baseball back.

My music choice was Alice in Chains.
