Spring Is In The Air Early This YeaR

Yesterday, with the temperature rising into the mid-sixties under mostly sunny skies, it shouldn’t be a surprise that I spent a good amount of time outside. The sun felt great, and the fresh air felt and mind-settling. There wasn’t much of a breeze, ether. Just a slight westerly breeze during the first half of the day, later switching to a more southerly breeze.

It sounded like spring, too. There were some birds singing, though not as many as there will be later. In the distance, the kids were outside playing, but I hear them outside every day. Most of the day, the traffic noise was fairly quiet. Not many trucks go past here on a Sunday. I miss our road being a dead end rather than a through way after Amtrak took our bridge. It makes sense why they did it, but I don’t like it.

The grass is getting green now and growing. Not only that, but I could smell the grass. Of course, there are loads of wild onions growing, and I could smell those too. Those are usually the first things to get a really deep and dark green during the spring, so they’re a sign of an impending spring to me. The buds on the neighbor’s maple tree are getting read now. It won’t be long until there are thousands of seeds flying around.

One thing I didn’t notice, though, was any robins hopping around. If I am not looking at the right place at the right time with my telescope, I won’t even notice them. Who knows if they would even land around here? This town has such a feral cat problem that it’s ridiculous. They’re wandering everywhere. The neighbor feeds them and has a cat shelter, so we get the shit in our yard.
