Squats Went Well Even With My Ankle Still Feeling Off
Last night, I slept pretty decently. It wasn’t a bad night’s sleep, but it wasn’t great either. When I was sleeping, I slept well, but I woke up more than usual and tossed and turned more than normal. My head was stuffy last night, and I had a bit of a headache too.
I felt pretty good when I woke up. I was a little tired, but I didn’t feel any worse than I do at other times. This morning, I was drinking my coffee and reading through hacker news, but I was already thinking about getting into the garage to do my squats early. It was so crisp and clear outside that it put me in a great mood. It felt more like fall than spring.
I still had a bit of a headache this morning and a very stuffy nose too. That was why my head hurt. I guess it’s pollen season. It’s not necessarily allergies that bug me, but I think it’s more the dust-like nature of the pollen. It can happen from just dust, like when I used to ride my quad up the mountains and the dirt roads were dry and dusty. It’s more of an annoyance than anything else.
I headed out to the garage as soon as I felt the barrel guys working. My squats weren’t that heavy today, and I saw no reason why I should fail short of an accident, so it shouldn’t be that loud. It was a little chilly out there this morning with the heater turned off now, but I was fine once I got moving.
My ankle is still feeling a bit weak, but I thought the squats should be fine. I did high reps of dumbbell squats in a WOD yesterday with no issues. I only felt it this morning when I first got out of bed. Once I got started with the empty bar, and it felt fine, I realized I should be good to go with the squats.
I took my time working through the light sets while warming up, and then through the heavier working sets. Nothing was really that heavy today, since I am still early in the progression. The final working set for this morning called for more than one rep at two hundred and seventy-five pounds. I settled for three at that weight today, and they felt great. I had low expectations and exceeded them. Stupid me! I didn’t record the last set to see how it looked, but I’m sure it looked great. Those squats felt extra deep this morning.
I rested a few minutes and browsed on my tablet but realized I wanted to get a WOD in early this morning. Today’s is already done and not really one I want to repeat so I looked around a bit on the Street Parking site. One from later this week looked okay. I wouldn’t say it was a great workout for me to do, but it got me moving, and that is all I wanted to do today.
