Starting 2024 Off With Squats!

Last night, I slept great! It was nice to get a good night’s sleep for a change. I’m glad I’m not the type of person who has any interest in the new years shit on TV. I don’t understand the appeal of watching a stupid ball drop on TV. Hell, I don’t even understand the draw of being there. Worse yet, all these places around here try to copy it with local stuff.

Sure, I’d go to a New Year’s party with friends. That would be fun. Even a sober one with the kids would be fun, but these public gatherings just don’t make sense to me.

I woke up feeling great and refreshed, too! While I was drinking my coffee, I had to fix a bug with my templates for this website. I didn’t consider that if it rained on January first, there would be zero dry days. Actually, I had taken it into account but misplaced the if statement. I had it as an elif instead of an if. It’s all good now. While I was doing that, I was thinking about getting to my squats as soon as possible. The neighbor that I care about disturbing left, and shortly after that, I heard the asshole neighbor’s dog storming through the house. Honestly, I Can’t believe they got a dog when they can’t even take care of themselves. That was when I knew it was late enough to head into the garage gym.

I got started with the empty bar, as I always do. That was when I knew it would be a pretty good bar. I was moving well, and that only improved as weight was added to the barbell.

It was a morning where I was enjoying my lifts and just taking my time between warm-up sets. I was appreciating the fact that I could do this at home, and I’m starting another year of it.

The final AMRAP called for three or more reps at two hundred and seventy pounds. I stopped prematurely at three reps. It felt slow and like it was a grind while I was performing the last squat. Luckily, I did record that set, and it was not even close to slow, according to my video. It was a little slower, but not something I should have stopped at. Judging by the video, I was good for at least two more reps. Oh, well. It’s no secret that I’m not aggressive enough when pushing the weight.

At the end of the day, it was a great way to start off a new year. Squats are by far my favorite exercise to do, and I don’t really keep it a secret. They are one of the big ones for me where my vision problems are very little if any of a factor at all. If I’m off center, I feel it as soon as I unrack the bar. They always make me feel good mentally. Even if it’s a tough day full of failure, I feel great afterward.
