What Else Can Go Wrong?
I slept great last night. I had a fucked up dream this morning right before I woke up, but that’s not really anything new for me. Still, I felt pretty good when I woke up and while I was drinking my coffee. I feel like I“m back to normal after my little cold.
Early this morning, I wanted to get to my bench press as soon as it was late enough. I’m doing all of my lifts out of order this week, but I’m getting them done. I still have to do my squats, but my knee was bugging me this morning, so I decided to wait for them. It has since been released.
It was about eight this morning or so when I got changed to get out into the garage. I knew today would be an adventure when the bench was not lined up right to warm up with just the empty bar. It didn’t take long for it to worsen. As I was switching weights to do the first set, I promptly dropped a ten pound plate. Luckily, it bounced off the bone at the top of my foot. Fortunately, it didn’t really hurt. Those change plates feel so much worse! They are metal and have a smaller surface area. It was like watching the plate drop in slow motion.
The rest of my bench press session was much less eventful. The weights all felt super heavy compared to how they should have felt, but I took my time and worked my way up through the sets. I stopped at five reps on my three-plus AMRAP at a hundred and sixty-five pounds. They never felt right from the start, but they didn’t feel too difficult. It was in no way one of those fun and enjoyable days, but I got it done.
I decided to get an endurance WOD in. I wanted to do one that was eight rounds of rowing for five hundred meters and two minutes of rest. For these, I connect my watch to the rower, so I can see the number easier than stopping and looking at the screen. I must have done something wrong when I kept the PM5 awake because, in the middle of the second interval, my distance jumped well over what it should have been. I didn’t feel like dealing with it, so I just stopped right there.
I still wanted to get a WOD in, so I found a shorter one that was a ladder of dumbbell squats and double unders. Today’s WOD called for push-up plus taps, which are a dumb way to do pushups. It also had wall walks, which are more of a skill type of exercise than a WOD one. My head’s still stuffy, so I would rather not get that aggravated by doing any of the scales for those wall walks. I was not in the mood to be dealing with hop-overs which are not a good substitute for single unders. At least for me. These scales aren’t always a one-size-fits-all deal. I used my fake jump rope. I stuck with the twenty-five pound dumbbells and got a good workout in that got my heart rate higher than it’s been since last weekend.
All in all, it was not a terrible day for me and my workouts. Things didn’t go according to plan, and shit went wrong, but I still got it done. Most importantly, I got it done on a day when I just wanted to say fuck it and go back to bed and maybe get a restart on this day.
I’m really looking forward to a couple of drinks at Joy’s tonight. I feel like I need them!
