Finally Got Around To My Squats This Morning

I slept good last night! My stress was a bit high, but I felt more refreshed when I woke up. I decided that I’d tackle my squats. I have been eating more since the sewer got opened up, so I was feeling less off. I’m long over being sick, too, so I’d have more confidence getting under a heavy bar.

I drank my coffee, but was eager to get out to the home gym and see how my squats went. Don’t get me wrong, though, since I’m still not feeling it when it comes to heavy weights. I have random soreness from not taking in enough calories over the past week. The sun came out, so I thought that was a great time to head out.

The bar felt heavier than it should today, plus my knee was a bit achy, so I took my time working my way up in the weights. The squats were feeling great, but they were just slower and heavier than they should be. I knew I had a heavy set at the end, so I took a bit longer of a rest than I usually do. The AMRAP was for three plus at a heavy two hundred and eighty pounds. I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I didn’t admit I was feeling at least a little intimidated by the weight, considering how weak I’ve felt over the past few days. I got under the bar, walked it out, and just stood there for a bit to get used to the feel of it. It felt crushingly heavy on my back today. The squats felt great, and my knee didn’t really nag me, so I got four reps in.

I felt like I had another one in me, but I would rather not overdo it and play with fire. This week isn’t the time for that. I’d rather have a good time next time than be injured.

I recovered a bit, then decided I wanted to get a WOD in too. I wanted a fast sprint like one, so I went with one from last week that was deadlifts, then cleans push presses with burpees every minute on the minute. Early on I knew it was going to be interesting when I got through fifty of the seventy deadlifts. It really jacked my heart rate up again, and that’s what I was looking for.

Today was the second day in a row that I hit a WOD with intensity. Even more so than I normally do, and even though the workout left me feeling like shit after I was finished, it was in a good way. I just wish that Street Parking would go back to more simple workouts instead of weird rep schemes or switching back and forth between movements. Simplicity is what really allows intensity, at least for me. I guess if I could put it on the board and just see it with a glance, then I could keep moving, but that’s never going to be the case for me.

Music today was Cathedral.
