Fun WOD Today

I have done a few WODs over the past few days, but I didn’t really push myself with the intensity of things or the weight. My leg has been bugging me. I even took a couple of days off from WODs The other day, when we went for a walk on a rail trail to go geocaching, I chose the real thing over a nice hike because of my leg.

A couple of days ago, I did a longer WOD that was rowing, cleans, and jerks, but I went light with the weight. It was almost too light. It made sense to go light, but sometimes the super light weight can be detrimental for my form, and that was kind of the case. I was using light dumbbells for cleans and jerks, and they turned into more of a curl. Dumbbells do that to me as they are, even if they’re heavier, but these smaller ones are worse. That WOD was also a longer one at 25 minutes but I was looking for a longer workout.

Yesterday I did one that was significantly shorter, but I used a slightly heavier dumbbells. I didn’t want to go too heavy or long in case the weather cleared for us to go caching. The sun came out, and the temperature rose into the 50s, so we did get out caching. Unfortunately, we chose a park that allows hunting, and our first find was too close to a hunter shooting at something for comfort. How responsible people are while hunting is not one of those things I want to take a chance with.

Today I wanted a longer workout again, so I dug up an old one that involved sets of ten unbroken squats and, in my case, biking fifteen calories. I wound up getting a good rest period between rounds, but between the squats and the bike, it was a big-time quad burner of a WOD. I went with a moderate weight on the back squats, using 115 pounds, because of my leg and the fact that I do not have a ton of experience with the bike. I do plan on using that more often now that the cooler weather is here!

It was a great workout that really got my heart rate up. The only thing that slowed me down was the sun. While I was doing my squats inside of the rack, the sun was coming in through the door, and with each rep, it would flash brightly onto my eye. That was a big distraction. Damned cloudy corneas. I do have to admit, though, that the sun felt great on my back and side toward the door, As always, I only did the squats in the rack due to space. Well, that and the fact that I didn’t have to dump the bar on the floor and risk it bouncing into something we don’t want it to hit, like me, the rower, or the gas heater. I do miss dumping the bar. That would be quicker, and it’s always fun hearing it hit the floor. It’s almost rewarding to feel the vibration when you dump the weight.
