Heavy Lifting This Morning Then A WOD On This Very Humid Day

Last night, I managed to have a good night’s sleep when I didn’t think I would. We did the smart thing and put the air condition for the bedroom in the window and turned it on. When I walked out of the bedroom this morning, it was like walking into a heat and humidity wall. I wouldn’t have slept well in that.

When I got up, I drank my coffee. At that time, it looked like we might get some much-needed rain, but that dried up before it got into Lancaster County. Oh, well. Maybe some thunderstorms later. WE got missed again yesterday.

I began the morning with my back squats. These were heavier for me at two hundred and fifty pounds. My knee was bugging me last night, so I was a little concerned about how these were going to feel, but they felt fine. We also don’t have the air conditioner in the garage window, so it was very humid, so that was a concern for me too. I dealt with the heat surprisingly well. To help me, I just took a bit of a longer rest between sets because of that and the heaviness. I managed to effortlessly make it through all three sets of the squats, and they were surprisingly strong and explosive through my sticking point. They looked great and felt even better than they looked. Didn’t even feel heavy at all for me. I completed my three sets of five of the back squats with no issues at all.

Next up for today was the light strict presses. As disappointed as I was to fail them the other day, today I am glad that I lowered the weight. They were easy at the ninety-five pounds, and I got through five sets of five fairly quickly. They gave me no problems, as they shouldn’t have, and it was nice to just go on autopilot with these and feel good moving light weight.

Last up, I had some deadlifts to get in for today. These were singles at two hundred and ninety-five pounds. I fully expected to fail with the heat today and my hands being so incredibly sweaty. The strange thing about today’s deadlifts is that even though it was a heavy weight for me, the lifts were all fast and explosive lifts. My grip felt great, and I never even had a rep that I thought I was going to miss. I even locked out and held the bar for a bit to help with the grip, which has always been my weakness with deadlifts. I was thrilled and surprised by how they felt. They didn’t even feel that heavy to me today.

The WOD didn’t go quite as well for me as my lifts did. It was dumbbell squats, thrusters and push up taps I went with the forty pound weights to get out of my comfort zone sincfe this is sort of like a tester WOD. I didn’t get as far along as I thought I would. The heat was killing me by this time. Why did I wait until it really warmed up? The fan wasn’t doing jack shit to cool me off. In the round of seven I completely messsed up the exercisee and did six thrusters before I eve nrealized what I was doing. I blame it on my brain being cooked. I had to put the dumbbells down and re gather myself to do the squats and then the thursters again. Typically I’d just go with the flow but with this being sort of a test WOD I wanted to do it exactly as wrtten. It was a good WOD for sure. Just My brain far screwed me over but it happens once in a while.

I can guarantee that the air conditioner will be installed in the window tomorrow when my girlfriend is home. It’s just awkward to do this one myself with the way I have to reach over the plate holder and stuff. The windows aren’t flat at all, so it takes someone to hold it in place or at least help. Once it’s done, it’s available for me to use any time I might need it. It would have been a huge help for me today, that’s for sure.
