Lifts Felt Fun Today

Today has been a good day for me. It was an unexpectedly good day after being woken up by police cars flying back and forth or whatever they were doing with their sirens on full blast last night. They even went past our house. Nothing like getting woken up by that.

I had fun with Brooke. She wasn’t here that long today, but she asked me to show her how to make a paper airplane because mine worked better than hers and Molly’s yesterday. It was fun.

I got back home from the bus stop then I looked through the news a bit then got changed to make my long journey to the garage gym. That was hard to open the door and walk through it.

First things first for today were my back squats at 220 pounds. These felt outstanding to me today. I went with some extra sets for five sets of five and took my time going through them and just enjoyed the fact that I was having fun today. The last couple of times time I had to do my lifting I was doing it later than I’d like or trying to rush through them, but today I was in no hurry at all. It didn’t take me long to work my way through them. It felt wonderful to be back in that zone of happiness.

Next on today’s plans for my lifting was the bench press at 155 pounds. These felt good today. Maybe they didn’t feel as easy as this weight would have for me at one point, but it wasn’t hard and more importantly my shoulder wasn’t protesting them. I took my time between sets and fairly easily made my way through five sets of five rather than the three sets I was supposed to do. I feel like I need to do more solid reps to get my weaker arm back up to par.

Finally, it was time to move on to my last lifts of the day, I did the three sets of ten good mornings. For them, after going lighter for a week or two since I had that core thing which I’ve deduced now was the stomach bugs starting, I went back up to the 115 pounds for the good mornings. They felt pretty good today.

I ate something and relaxed and recovered from my lifting for a while before I decided to give a WOD a go.

I chose to do a WOD that was going to be pretty easy today. Honestly, I figured I may not get as much as I could out of it, but it fit what I wanted to do. It was just rowing and air squats. The fact that the row was for, and I had to sort of keep an eye on my watch to see the minute and 30 seconds for the sections kept the intensity down too. I actually didn’t have a great flow at all with the WOD that I did. I moved well enough though, and more importantly I moved instead of just sitting on the couch.

I had a surprisingly high amount of burn deep in my quads with the air squats, and they were only small sets. Every so often that happens and there’s no rhyme or reason to when or why it happens. Other times I can knock out big sets. Probably from sitting in the car yesterday to go some place much further away than we had gone since the pandemic started. I waited in the car while we were there, then we went the hour and a half or so back home. I’m just not used to sitting that long in one place.

Music today was just my Fiio on Random
