Got My Strength And A WOD In This Morning Before The Eagles Game

Today was strength day so I had to get that in early this morning in case the likely need to partake in adult beverages while watching the Eagles fuck up should occur.

The day started with squats as always. They were a nice, fun, moderately weighted 235 pounds. my knee and ankle on my left foot feel wonky today so I wasn’t sure how that would go. I tripped over something near the door out to the garage door and flew out it last night landed on my feet but awkwardly. I took a little extra time because of that setting up and working through my five sets of five at the said 235 pounds today with no issues. They felt good other than the little bit of extra pressure on my ankle and knee. They helped loosen me up a bit too.

Bench press felt great for five sets of five at 160 pounds. This lift is slowly feeling easier. Maybe not easier but more doable would be a better way to put it.

Did my good mornings at 80 pounds again. I feel like I am finally being able to push my ass back more on these so that’s a good thing.

I know unilateral stuff (other than lunges finally) are a weakness for me so I thought I’d give some split squats and single leg deadlifts a try today with light dumbbells. The split squats just weren’t happening. I’ll keep trying though until I teach my brain that it can do them. The single leg deadlifts actually went okay with 30 pound dumbbells. Not great by any means but for the first time in my life I felt like I could do them without wanted to break my face on the floor so that’s a positive.

For the WOD I went back and did a dumbbell version of an old one that looked reasonable enough to get some practice reps in. 3 rounds of 20 squats, 40 single dumbbell snatches and 20 more squats with 2 minutes rest between the rounds. I ended up using the 30 pound dumbbells and got through the WOD in 15ish minutes. I definitely get the feeling I could have done the RX weight of 40 pounds on this particular WOD. I have done the snatches a few times at the old gym but I am taking my time to work up to that. It’s not a sprint, it’s more like a marathon. The WOD went well compared to what I was expecting.

The music choice today for both the strength and the WOD was Sleep! So Heavy.

Now it’s almost time to go watch the Eagles game. I’m sure I’ll be as disappointed as a cowboys fan’s mom when they find out they’re a cowboys fan.
